Ryan Adler is Not Just a Magician

Ryan is the youngest son of George and Pamela Adler, and has an older brother named Greg. "I’ve been really lucky. They are so supportive of what I do. They know how much I love the art of magic and know the possibilities of where this journey can take me. I know I have them to thank for many of my successes". Ryan was a very inquisitive and curious child. His parents encouraged him to try different sports and extracurricular activities, which Ryan and his brother Greg loved to compete in. Ryan was very active in sports such as soccer, Kung Fu, and cross-country running, and even got involved with theatrical arts while a student at James Logan High School.

"One of the most common questions I am asked is how old I was when I first got into magic. It was probably around 10 or so, but looking back on it now, I can’t really remember a time when magic wasn’t a part of my life." Ryan became seriously interested in magic at the age of 15 when he bought a trick where he could make a dollar bill or silk handkerchief disappear. Ryan jokingly admits "I figured I could make a little profit every time I did that trick- maybe there could be something to this magic thing"! After that he was hooked. Ryan began doing shows for family and friends at age 16, and by age 17 had produced his first stage show where he performed for his high school peers.

Ryan was always a very dedicated student, especially since his parents would not let him do magic shows unless his grades were up to par. This motivating factor kept him at the top of his class from seventh grade on, until he graduated Magna Cum Laude from James Logan High School in 1999. He went on to attend California State University, Hayward on a full academic scholarship. June 2003 brought a long awaited day for Ryan- graduation. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with Distinction, earning his bachelor of arts degree in Liberal Studies with a minor in Philosophy.

When it comes to spare time, Ryan says "What spare time?!! Actually when I do take time for myself I like to watch magic videos and catch up on my sleep." Other activities that Ryan enjoys include skydiving, bunjy jumping, golf, working out, reading and running. Ryan also donates his time throughout the year by performing magic for various charitable organizations such as Operation Mom and school foundations. Ryan enjoys traveling to Las Vegas during the year and visiting with friends, especially his role model in the magic realm, Rick Thomas. Ryan has the highest respect for Rick and says, "Rick Thomas is the best magician I’ve ever seen. I have met several people in the magic industry and Rick has to be one of the kindest most down to earth people I’ve met. If you ever go to Vegas, put this show at the top of your list-- you won’t regret it".

When asked about the future Ryan says, "I’m going to go on this journey and see where it takes me. My biggest goal is to have my own show on the Las Vegas strip, and I know that it will take years and years of very hard work". Does that intimidate him? "Intimidate me? No way. You have to earn your way to the top, and that’s what we’re going to do, one audience at a time".
